Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech claims that midfielder Mesut Ozil is one of the biggest threats for Arsenal, as the unpredictability provided by the German is especially tough for goalkeepers.
Cech has played alongside Ozil for his first season after the move to the Emirates stadium last summer.
Even though the season has ended without any trophies for the Czech Republic goalkeeper, it has been positive campaign on a personal level. He has also witnessed Ozil step up his game a lot more compared to recent seasons.
The German recently claimed that the secret towards his consistent campaign was a significant change in early-season preparation in order to counter the lack of winter break. The 2015-16 campaign was one of the best for Ozil after he came very close to beating the Premier League assist record that has been standing for a more than a decade. The former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry holds the record for the most number of assists (20) in a Premier League season. Ozil came within one assist of this record. The main challenge for Ozil will be to continue replicating this form even into next season. This may be difficult because Ozil is likely to be the main man for Germany at the Euro 2016.
“It’s very tricky for the goalkeeper because you know anything can happen. He sometimes sees things and you think, ‘There’s no way he can put the ball there because it’s too complicated,’ but he always finds a way. Even with his finishing, he has the calmness in front of goal, picks his spot very well and he can put it wherever he wants. You could see that his overall game has been brilliant all year, so he definitely deserves to get the player of the season award,” said the Arsenal goalkeeper.
