Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil has reportedly received an offer to join Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit D. C. United ahead of the January transfer window. Spanish newspaper AS revealed that Mesut Ozil is the subject of a formal offer from D. C. United who want to sign the German playmaker ahead of the new MLS season. The new MLS season doesn’t start until mid-March next year.
German World Cup winnerOzil became the most expensive player in the history of Arsenal when they paid £42.4m (€50m) to sign him from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013. Arsenal have since broken that transfer record on three occasions.
He signed a new three-year contract in February 2018,and it made him the highest earner in the club’s history at £350,000 weekly. Arsenal signed him when legendary manager Arsene Wenger was at the club. Mesut Ozil was a key player for Arsenal when Wenger was at the club. He has never regained that status since Wenger left the club in 2018. Current boss Mikel Arteta played with Ozil under Wenger and he’s the present Arsenal manager. Arteta has frozen him out of the team since March shortly before Covid-19 stopped football in the major European leagues for some months.
Ozil, 32, is not short of offers as per the reports. Apart from D. C. United, the player is also attracting interest from Turkish club Fenerbahce. Clubs in Italy, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are also interested in him.
